The thought of lasers can seem extreme and scary, but in Dermatology they are one of our biggest assets. Lasers are great for reversing signs of aging such as brown spots, redness, fine lines, wrinkling, and poor tone and texture. We offer two main laser procedures in our office for photodamage, IPL-PDT and Fractionated.
IPL-PDT stands for “Intense Pulsed Light Photodynamic Therapy”. This procedure is excellent for brown spots and redness on the face, neck, and chest. It also improves the skin’s tone and texture and promotes collagen production. The procedure differs from regular IPL because we paint Levulan on your face prior to the laser. The Levulan photo-sensitizes the skin and helps to treat precancerous lesions. After the procedure you are red and swollen for approximately 3 days and then continue to peel throughout the week. This is Dr. Muldrow’s favorite procedure!
Fractionated Laser is used to rejuvenate the skin by targeting brown spots, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and scars. This procedure has about 7 days of down time and will leave you with much younger and healthier looking skin!
Do lasers hurt? This is a big fear people have when deciding whether or not to have a laser procedure done. Do not fret, we prescribe you medications to relax you under the laser and also apply a topical numbing agent prior to the procedure. This fall we will be running great specials on our lasers!
