There are many reasons for skin aging, some factors we can control while others are just a natural part of life. To avoid premature aging there are some basic skin care guidelines that everyone should live by. First and foremost you should apply a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, regardless of whether or not you are going to spend the day outdoors. Secondly you should quit smoking, reduce alcohol intake, and eat a healthy diet. Third you should cleanse and moisturize your face twice daily.
Now those are just the basics but there are plenty of ways to kick it up a notch and reverse the signs of photo-aging. Retin-A is the true workhorse for any photodamage routine. Retina-A is a form of Vitamin A that works to repair the skin at a cellular level. Retin-A can help lighten age spots, promote collagen production, smooth fine lines, and make your skin look younger overall.
Glycolic Acid is another important player in reversing sun damage. It’s made of alpha hydroxy acids and is derived from cane sugar. It helps slough the dead cells off the top layer of the skin revealing a younger and brighter complexion. If you have hyper-pigmentation on your face or “sun spots” you may also want to add in a bleaching agent called Hydroquinone. Hydroquinone blocks the formation of melanin, which creates dark pigment in the skin. Therefore Hydroquinone in combination with RetinA and a glycolic helps evenly lighten your complexion.
