Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments in the Denver Metro Area
If you’re ready to stop hiding your skin imperfections under makeup or clothing, treatment with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL or IPL Photofacial) might be perfect for you.
What is Intense Pulsed Light treatment?
During Intense Pulsed Light treatment, highly concentrated pulses of light energy are converted into heat energy to gently treat skin damage such as brown discoloration, freckles, red capillaries, spider veins, facial redness, rosacea, and enlarged pores. If you would like to treat multiple conditions simultaneously, IPL is an ideal treatment choice. A typical session lasts 30 to 60 minutes and requires little to no downtime. Improvement appears gradually following treatment. Most patients require 2 to 5 sessions for optimal results.
Treatment areas include:
- Hands
- Face
- Arms
- Back
- Shoulders
- Chest
How does IPL treatment work?
IPL uses high-intensity light to penetrate below the surface of the skin, destroying the cells that cause skin imperfections. Prior to treatment, you will receive special goggles to protect your eyes, and a cooling gel will be applied. The glass head of the hand piece will lightly contact the target areas, delivering quick pulses, or flashes, of light. You might feel a slight sting with each pulse, much like a small rubber band snapping against your skin.
Once treatment is finished, the area will be cleaned, the gel will be removed, and you will be given a soothing sunscreen to apply.
Recovery
Most patients are able to resume normal activity within 24 hours. Immediately following the procedure, you may feel some temporary discomfort. A cold compress applied to the area for 5 to 10 minutes generally provides effective relief. You may also notice slight redness and swelling, which will resolve within a few hours to a week. Freckles and brown spots will darken and then flake off within 2 to 3 weeks.
During the recovery period, you will need to wear sunscreen for protection. To conceal any imperfections resulting from treatment, you may apply makeup as you wish. Within 2 to 3 weeks, your skin will become clearer and more radiant. Improvement in texture and appearance will continue for up to 1 month following treatment.
